Welcome to Week 11 of my CS 373: Software Engineering blog!

1.) What did you do this past week?

This past week, I started working on deliverables for phase 3. I did a lot of stuff for phase 2 so the amount of work I have had to do for phase 3 so far has been less compared to phase 2. I also had two exams I had to prepare for and some assignments to finish up for my other classes.

2.) What is in your way?

Nothing much is really in my way other than the fact that I have two exams on Tuesday so I’ve been trying to balance out preparing for those while also working on phase 3. I’m glad the deadline got pushed for phase 3 otherwise I would’ve had a rough Tuesday night.

3.) What will you do next week?

Next week, I will continue working on implementing the requirements for phase 3 while also trying to make the website look better code wise and usability wise in preparation for phase 4.

4.) If you read it, what did you think of the Why getter and setter methods are evil?

I thought it was a really interesting read, primarily because I felt like it was personally attacking the way I like to write programs. From my point of view, I always thought creating getter and setter methods in the programs I write made the code look “cleaner” but I never thought about the problematic implications that could come up in terms of security and abstraction.

5.) What was your experience of select, project, cross join, and theta join?

While I don’t really have experience with relational databases/algebra at all, I was able to understand these concepts really well! Professor Downing’s examples in class were very thorough and it helped me solidify my understanding of everything.

6.) What made you happy this week?

I was able to receive my first dose of the Pfizer vaccine this week, without any side-effects so that was definitely exciting. I also hung out with friends and took the time to walk around and enjoy the weather.

7.) What is your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

If you have a Mac and find yourself wanting to take a screenshot of your page or portions of your page, there is a nifty keyboard shortcut that allows you to do this. Command+Shift+3 takes a screenshot of the entire page while Command+Shift+4 allows you to take a screenshot of a portion of your page.
